1962 rex

This is a 1962 REX KL35.I saw this bike on the local want adds close by and went to see it. I never heard of it and almost passed. As it goes its fairly rare. It was made in Munich Germany and sold out of Salt Lake City ,Utah. It is a 50 cc 2 stroke originally sold as a KL30 in Europe but modified with dual carburators and dual exaust, Repainted and pinstriped but Rex never rebadged with  a different decal

   The before picture,What a project!

This ad and a 1 page Road Impressions write up was found in 1962 August Cycle World Magazine

Check out the key storage and how it locks up the bike-The locksmith took 3 weeks to make a key and remove from bars.

Italian seat, VDO gauges and Hella lights adorned this little beauty

  1. Nice job, I owned one of these back in around 1963/64 when we lived in SLC. Your pictures brought back some memories.

  2. Great job! Amazing restoration. I bought 3 of these together. I was told they came from Germany. They have the kl30 graphics you mention. One is almost complete, the other two are pretty rough. Any tips or resources on parts would be appreciated!

  6. I remember these from when i was a kid, in W Germany, 1977. There were "mofa gangen", ie moped gangs, who thought they were real badasses. Lots of variety in their decorated Mofa's. Just motorized bicycles, really. Gas is expensive over there, and in the 70's not so prosperous, so they rode anything.
Why would an engine this small need dual exhausts?
